You might be expecting an article about zombies based on the title—so sorry to disappoint those of you that are horror movie fans (and zombies scare the bajezus outta me.)

What I want you to do is check out this great article that Esther Inglis-Arkell at IO9 put together talking about just how much of our brains are activated by music, and how integral music can be to helping us retain knowledge.  Here’s my favorite quote from the article: “Musicians do some of the hardest parts of our thinking for us, making it easy for us to pick up what they have pre-processed for us.”

So, all you music lovers out there:  keep it up!  Listening to and learning to music is a great workout for your brain— stay in shape!

About Jessica Sharbaugh

I am the newest Admin Specialist II in the Music Department. I earned my Bachelor's degree in English from the University of Arkansas in May 2011. I am not a native Southerner, but in the last 7 years I've developed a taste for sweet tea and chips and queso dip. However, I still maintain my Yankee-ness because of my love of the Pittsburgh Penguins hockey team and my inability to correctly "Call the Hogs"-- it's a work in progress.
